A Rural Review 2016: Week 8!

Happy Friday one and all and welcome back to A Rural Review. With February drawing swiftly to a close and March just around the corner (it feels like Christmas was only yesterday doesn't it? Where does the time go...) it feels as though springtime is on the horizon. Still, here at Rural Arts we don't need to wait for Spring as we already have it in our step; we have had a fantastic week and with next week shaping up to be even better, theres lots to catch you up on! Without further ado, let's talk about..

What's been happening

A Taste Of... Sessions
Just some of the fantastic creations made at 'A Taste Of...'
Another week and another fantastic session with our adults art club. If you were not aware, in 2015 we launched 'A Taste Of...' a weekly art session where each week a new art form is explored - giving all the participants a chance to experiment with a variety of different skills and styles in a relaxed, friendly environment. Fair to say it has proven to be pretty popular and is still going strong today - this week our lovely members had a crack (no pun intended) at Sgraffitto tiles. The results were, as always, beautiful and we want to thank everyone who attended for such a lovely Wednesday morning! If you wanted to sign up for any other sessions, you can do that HERE, but make sure you book quickly because they always sell out fast!

Community Learning
Our lovely participants and their beautiful work
At Rural Arts we don't just deliver art sessions at our Courthouse, we also take them out into the community. Ran by our fabulous Outreach team and funded by the North Yorkshire County Council, Community Learning is a project which helps learners address issues such as anxiety and low confidence through creativity. This week, we were at Aisbly and Middleton Village Hall, offering the residents free 'A Taste Of...' sessions to encourage life-long learning. We had a great time with printmaking with everyone who turned up, and, as you can see by these very happy faces, it was a very successful afternoon!

Room Hire Offer
We spend a lot of time in this blog talking about all the fantastic things that take place at our Courthouse - well did you know that you can in fact hire our venue so that you can have some fantastic times of your own! Not only is Courtroom available for hire if you are holding large events, but we also have two well furnished, flexible meeting rooms so we can suit all your needs, however big or small. Furthermore, to tie into our new website, we are actually offering 20% off all room hire until March 31st if you book using our brand-spanking new system on our website - so what are you waiting for!? Click HERE to get started.

What's Coming Up

Free performance event!
Just look at those Poppadoms!
There is nothing better for us than to get your feedback on our projects - we value your opinion because, and apologies to Bryan Adams in advance, everything we do, we do it for you. Therefore, on the 8th March we are holding are free event at Newton-Le-Willows Village Hall in Richmondshire, where you can have the chance to see a show that will potentially be a part of our rural touring scheme ON Tour and then give us your thoughts about rural communities and what performances you would like to see at your venue. The performance is a fantastic new piece by theatre company Ragged Edge Productions called The Chef Show, which is a light-hearted comedic exploration of the British phenomenon that is 'The Indian.' The show features live cookery demonstrations with local chefs from the area, so you might even get a bit of free food aswell! It would be fantastic to have as many people as possible at the event so that we can gather as much feedback as possible. To register for a ticket click HERE - we would love to see you there.

Ceramic Lovebirds
An example of what you could create if you sign up!
Mothers Day is just around the corner - and what better way to show her you love her than doing a workshop together?! The perfect choice would be to get enrolled on our Ceramic Lovebirds course run by the brilliant Rosina Gilboy. It's taking place on the 11th March, and you can buy tickets HERE. If you have flown the nest  (see what we did there?) but your Mum is still local then why not get her a gift card so she can enjoy anything in the Rural Arts world she chooses - its a win win! You can get your gift cards on our website HERE so make sure you treat her - I am sure she deserves it!

Abi Moore Music
Spring coming near also means the beginning of our ON Tour 2016 spring season! Although our first show is Holy Moly & The Crackers this saturday (read about that next week, it has been a sell outs we are expecting big things!) we begin in earnest with the fabulous independent singer-songwriter Abi Moore! Although she has bypassed the traditional roots, Abi has been making waves with her self-released albums, has been championed by Cafe Nero and toured with the likes of Midge Ure. She is playing 4 dates in North Yorkshire starting in Wensley on the 16th March and you would be a fool to miss it! Click HERE to book yourself a ticket!

And with that we reach end of another Rural Review. Thanks very much reading, and we hope to see next week!
